May was born and raised in Toms River, New Jersey.

According to May's Facebook page, he used to bartend at Bamboo Bar. The cast of Jersey Shore used to regularly spend time at the nightclub when the series aired from 2009 until 2012.

One month after the MTV personality showed herself spending time with May during the holidays, the former bartender made their relationship official on his social media.

"Possibly still hungover from NYE..," May captioned a series of photos via Instagram in January 2022.

May previously opened up about his brother Garrett's battle with testicular cancer in 2019. While linking to a GoFundMe page that helps Garrett care for his daughter, May noted that he appreciated "all the love and support we’ve been receiving" amid his brother's health scare.

The New Jersey native has shared several inspirational Instagram quotes about the benefits of working out, including one in 2017 which read, "Somedays it's not about health or building muscle. It's just therapy."
