Top Boston Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony had the hardest hit ball in Triple A on Sunday. His single in the bottom of the fifth inning went 113.1 mph off the bat.
Anthony went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run in Triple-A Worcester’s 8-5 win over Columbus.
Anthony, who Baseball America ranks No. 2 on its Top 100 list, continues to crush the ball as he also had a 101.3 mph single, 103.9 mph flyout and 101.5 mph flyout.
It was his hardest hit ball this season surpassing a 112.1 mph single he hit April 9.
Anthony led all players in the Red Sox organization (majors and minors) in max exit velocity last year with a 116 mph homer.
The 20-year-old is 11-for-43 (.256) with a .396 on-base percentage, .488 slugging percentage, .884 OPS, two home runs, two doubles, one triple, seven runs, seven RBIs, 10 walks and 15 strikeouts in 12 games for Worcester.
Other Red Sox minor league notes from Sunday
~ Marcelo Mayer went 0-for-4 for Worcester. He has had a tough start to the season, going 9-for-45 (.200 batting average) with a .234 on-base percentage, two homers, nine RBIs, seven runs, two walks and 11 strikeouts.
~ Vaughn Grissom went 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk, run and strikeout for the WooSox. The 24-year-old is 13-for-44 (.295) with a .367 on-base percentage, two homers, 12 runs, six RBIs, five walks and 13 strikeouts in 12 games for Worcester.
~ Yophery Rodriguez, the 19-year-old who Boston acquired from the Brewers in the Quinn Priester trade last Monday, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in High-A Greenville’s 8-2 loss to Asheville. He’s 9-for-26 (.346) with a .452 on-base percentage, .577 slugging percentage, 1.029 OPS, two triples, two doubles, two RBIs, six runs, five walks and seven strikeouts in seven games this season. He’s 4-for-14 (.286) with a .444 on-base percentage, one double, one triple, four walks and four strikeouts in four games in the Red Sox organization.
~ Freili Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Low-A Salem’s 5-4 loss to Fredericksburg. The 20-year-old first baseman, who the Red Sox signed out of the Dominican Republic for $1.1 million in 2022, is 11-for-31 (.355 batting average) with a .382 on-base percentage, .677 slugging percentage, 1.059 OPS, two homers, two doubles, one triple, eight RBIs, six runs, one walk and nine strikeouts in eight games.
~ Double-A Portland’s doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
