October may be the scariest month of the year for some, but it’s also a great time of year to snuggle up with the kids and watch movies. Netflix has us covered with some great family movies dropping throughout the month.
There are movies for kids of all ages. Some of them are perfect for younger family members who want to laugh at the escapades of an animated, talking panda. Then there are movies for teenagers who need to learn a discipline or want to feel a little older and edgier.
Not sure what to watch? Here are all the family movies on Netflix in October in release date order.
With Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 just around the corner, there is no doubt that you’ll be in a Karate Kid movie. It’s time to watch it with the kids. This is a chance to share your love for the franchise and give them an example of standing up for what’s right.
All three movies dropped on Netflix on Tuesday, Oct. 1, so now is a great time to work your way through them. Yes, follow up with Cobra Kai afterward.
Kung Fu Panda 1 and 3
Oddly enough, the second Kung Fu Panda movie isn’t dropping with the other two, but the first and third movies are now available to stream on Netflix. It’s time to start Po’s journey of figuring out his place. He is the laziest and clumsiest panda in the Valley of Peace with dreams of becoming a kung fu legend. When Tai Lung threatens peace, he realizes that there is no time like the present to follow his dreams.
The first and third movies are now on Netflix.
There have been some great animated family movies over the years. Over the Hedge follows Verne and his fellow woodland friends. When they wake up from hibernation, they find out that their neighborhood is gone. Their new neighbors are now humans.
RJ, a raccoon, uses this time to show the wildlife how they can exploit suburbia. At what cost for him and for them?
Over the Hedge is now on Netflix.
Zookeeper
Kids love movies with talking animals. It’s why there are so many constantly made. To be honest, can you really blame kids for loving them? Don’t we all? There’s something about adding a layer of humanity to animals. Zookeeper does just that, bringing us a mixture of live-action and CGI.
We follow Giffin Keyes, a kind-hearted caretaker at the Franklin Park Zoo. He’s far more comfortable with animals than people, but his love life is lacking. He decides that finding a more glamorous career is the way to find a girl, which leads to the animals at the zoo panicking. They like Griffin; he cares for them. So, they share their secret ability to talk so they can help him get the girl and keep the career.
Zookeeper is now on Netflix.
If your family is into anime, you’ll be happy to hear that there is a release specifically for you. Kubo and the Two Strings is a beautifully crafted anime that follows a boy who threatens peace by accidentally summoning a vengeful spirit from the past. He heads out on the run and joins with Monkey and Beetle to unlock a secret legacy.
This movie is packed with gods and monsters. It follows the story of a boy trying to save his family while learning some family secrets and solving the mystery of his own father who fell in battle.
You can already watch Kubo and the Two Strings on Netflix.
Pixels
It’s time for something for the teenagers. Pixels certainly has its fair share of slightly more adult humor, and it’s back with some fun action. It brings classic arcade games to life, as aliens intercept the feeds and misinterpret them as a declaration of war.
Humans will need to use the games they grew up with. So, President Will Cooper teams up with his childhood friend, Sam Brenner so they can lead a team of military specialists to save the planet one Pac-Man at a time.
Pixels is on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 11.
We all know Clifford. He’s the Big Red Dog that we would love (and hate) to have. Just imagine the fluff—and that’s if you could fit him into your house! Well, the 2021 movie Clifford and the Big Red Dog is a must for the family this month.
Emily Elizabeth ends up with a little red puppy from a magical animal rescuer. Little does she know, that little red puppy turns into a 10-foot hound overnight. With her mom away on business, Emily and her uncle head out on an adventure with Clifford. It’s fun for the whole family.
Clifford and the Big Red Dog is on Netflix on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Kung Fu Panda 4
We promised this movie was on the list, but it didn’t drop with the other two in the franchise. That’s because this is the most recent Kung Fu Panda movie.
When Po is chosen to become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace, he learns that he needs to train a new warrior. That’s put on hold for a while when a shape-shifting sorceress sets her eyes on the Staff of Wisdom. Po will need to team up with a corsac fox if he wants to protect the Valley of Peace (and the whole world)!
Kung Fu Panda 4 is on Netflix on Monday, Oct. 21.
What do pets get up to when we leave the house for work? It’s like the question of what toys get up to. Well, animated movies tend to give us fantastical answers. In The Secret Life of Pets, we watch what happens. Yes, they all communicate with each other.
There is an adventure, of course. Max is a spoiled terrier who enjoys his pampered life. Things are turned on their heads when Max’s human adopts Duke, an unruly canine. While out for a walk, the two are separated from their human and end up in a truck bound for the pound. Can they call on their neighborhood friends to help?
The Secret Life of Pets is coming to Netflix on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
