Fallout 76: How to Farm Junk Material
In the Fallout 76 universe, junks are as valuable as jewels; here’s how to farm this precious material.
Materials like wood are used to create lots of basic things. However, wood is a very easy resource to obtain. This list is dedicated to those junk items that are important for building and repairing yet tricky to track down. From Nuclear Material to Flux, there are lots of essential junk items that every player needs to stockpile in post-war Appalachia. All of the components below are worth tagging in the Pip-Boy so that players can find the materials a little bit easier.
Players can buy a lot of these components in bulk from various vendors in-game, but this usually isn't worth it as they are typically overpriced.
11 Aluminum
A Very Useful Material
Item | Yield |
Cake Pan | 3 |
Clean Cake Pan | 3 |
Carlisle Typewriter | 2 |
Alarm Clock | 2 |
Coolant Caps | 2 |
Aluminum is used to craft lots of things. It is an essential component for modifying armor, weapons, and power armor pieces. While this particular resource can be found fairly easily, most players will find that they use it just as fast as they find it.
There are lots of great places for farming aluminum. Places like Pleasant Valley Ski Resort and Harpers Ferry are excellent for finding lots of aluminum. Alternatively, players can place a mineral extractor in certain locations dotted around the map. A mineral extractor will periodically mine aluminum ore from the ground, which can be collected and smelted into aluminum.
10 Copper
A Core Component For Base Building
Item | Yield |
Pre-War Lamp | 3 |
Trumpet | 3 |
High-Powered Magnet | 3 |
Beaker Stand | 2 |
Lighthouse Souvenir | 2 |
Base building plays a large role in Fallout 76. Whether the player enjoys building at their CAMP or inside one of their Vaults, one thing is for certain: they will need copper. Copper is needed to craft things like generators and lights. Without copper, players would be sitting in the dark without anything to power up their bases.
One of the best ways to get copper passively is to build a CAMP over a copper deposit. There are lots of copper deposits dotted all around Appalachia. Another approach is to visit the Landview Lighthouse. Inside the lighthouse, players will find several Lighthouse Souvenirs. Each one gives the player two copper when broken down.
9 Lead
Can't Make Much Ammo Without Lead
Item | Yield |
160lb Barbell | 10 |
20lb Barbell | 5 |
Blue Paint | 5 |
Ignition Core | 5 |
Rat Poison | 5 |
Lead is a core component for crafting most of the regular ammo types in Fallout 76. Without lead, players have to rely on quest rewards and vendors to get ammo. Players who have earned maximum Raider Reputation can buy the plan for an ammo generator. However, even this doesn't generate ammo very quickly.

Fallout 76: Best Places To Farm Lead
Lead is an essential crafting material in Fallout 76, as players need it for ammo. Here's where they can scavenge this metal.
One of the best ways to farm lead is to visit the various gyms dotted around the map. The gyms with the most lead are located in the Charleston Fire Department, Eastern Regional Penitentiary, and the Nuclear Launch Sites. Players can also mine lead in various mine shafts around Appalachia, or place a lead mineral extractor over a lead deposit. These can be good, but it is more efficient to loot each of the gyms every couple of days.
8 Circuits
Required To Build Turrets And Electronics
Item | Yield |
Sensor Module | 5 |
Scrap Assaultron Head | 3 |
Radio Jammer | 3 |
Enhanced Targeting Card | 2 |
Hot Plate | 1 |
This rare component is used to make lots of things in Fallout 76. From weapons to explosives, traps to turrets, circuits are a vital component.
There are a couple of locations where circuits can be found in large amounts. Players can find up to 13 circuits inside Abbie's Bunker. They can also find a lot of circuits in the Whitespring Refuge and inside The Whitespring Bunker.
If the player has completed the Mayor For A Day questline, then the robots in Watoga will no longer be hostile. This means that the player can take out the Assaultrons patrolling Watoga with little resistance, and then loot the Assaultron bodies and hop servers. This is a very good way of getting circuits fast.
7 Screws
Hard To Come By Early On, But Easy To Get For High-Level Players
Item | Yield |
Giddyup Buttercup | 3 |
New Toy Truck | 3 |
Globe | 2 |
Hubcap | 2 |
Pepper Mill | 2 |
Screws are an important component for crafting and repairing weapons and armor. For new players, finding screws can be a little tricky, but as they progress, they become much easier to find.
The best way to farm screws is to kill Wendigos. Wendigos drop up to 11 screws when killed. The event, A Colossal Problem, is by far the best way to get lots of screws. This event involves launching a nuke over Monogah Mine. This will start the public quest, and it is not an event for low-level players. Countless Wendigos will spawn in and attack the player. The main goal of this quest is to kill Earl Williams, a mutated Wendigo Colossus.
Upon completing this event and looting all the enemy corpses, players can gather several hundred loose screws in as little as 15 minutes.
6 Springs
Springs Are Important For Modifying Weapons And Armor
Item | Yield |
Vault-Tec Alarm Clock | 2 |
Giddyup Buttercup | 2 |
Carlisle Typewriter | 1 |
Alarm Clock | 1 |
Battered Clipboard | 1 |
Springs have lots of uses in Fallout 76. They are needed to modify armor and weapons. Not only that, they are also a core component for building various CAMP items like turrets. While it may seem difficult to find springs at first, there are a few tips that players should use to maximize the amount of springs they come across.
A battered clipboard only offers one spring when scrapped. Because of this, lots of newer players don't see battered clipboards as valuable items. However, battered clipboards can be found in large quantities in several locations on the map, making them a great item to hunt for extra springs.
Some notable places to find battered clipboards are Camp McClintock and Sugar Grove. As a side note, the Yao Guai all drop springs when killed, so players should never pass up the opportunity to take one out for some extra springs.

Deathclaw Corpses | Varies |

Purchased With Claim Tokens | Varies |

Black titanium can be a tricky junk item to get in large quantities. While most high-level players will probably have a nice stockpile, mid-level players typically find it difficult to find black titanium in large quantities.
The best way to farm this material is to kill Mole Miners. These can be found in various locations around the map. The best locations for killing Mole Miners are Mount Blair Trainyard, The Burning Mine, and Welch. Players can also hunt Deathclaws on Deathclaw Island to find black titanium. There is also a Deathclaw that spawns consistently in Thunder Mountain Substation TM-02.

Ballistic Fiber is needed for some of the best upgrades and armor in Fallout 76. Here's how you can farm it.
However, there are a few locations that have a decent amount of ballistic fiber that players can farm. The best places to farm ballistic fiber are Fort Defiance and Camp McClintock. There are some other locations that have ballistic fiber, but the two mentioned are by far the best areas to find it.
3 Nuclear Material
A Rare Component With Many Uses
Item | Yield |
Ignition Core | 3 |
Radscorpion Stinger | 2 |
Ichor Sac | 2 |
Volatile Materials Box | 1 |
Nuclear Waste | 1 |
New players would be forgiven for thinking it would be easy to find nuclear material in a world ravaged by nuclear war. In reality, this resource is tricky to come by. Nuclear material is a core component for crafting certain high-level weapon and Power Armor modifications. It is also required to build various things in a player's CAMP.
Thankfully, there are a couple of reliable ways to farm nuclear material. One way is to take over the workshop located at the Federal Disposal Field HZ-21. Here, the player can place mineral extractors on the nuclear waste piles and begin collecting nuclear waste. The other way to farm nuclear waste is to mine uranium ore veins in Blackwater Mine.
2 Adhesive
The Most Useful Component In The Game
Item | Yield |
Economy Wonderglue | 5 |
Pack of Duct Tape | 4 |
Military Grade Duct Tape | 4 |
Sealed Wonderglue | 4 |
Wonderglue | 2 |
Adhesive is one of the most important building materials in Fallout 76. It is used for crafting weapons, armor, Power Armor, mods, CAMP items, and more. Thankfully, there are lots of ways that players can farm adhesive. A good way for low-level players to get excess adhesive is to take over a workshop that has a junk pile in it.
Workshops like Charleston Landfill, Tyler County Dirt Track, and Gorge Junkyard are good low-level workshops that players can take over to farm excess adhesive. It is also possible to craft vegetable starch. This can be broken down into 5 adhesive. To make vegetable starch, the player will need:
- 2 x Mutfruit
- 2 x Corn
- 2 x Tato
- 1 x Purified Water
1 Flux
Expensive And Powerful
Unfortunately, there are no junk items that can be broken down into Flux. Flux can be obtained in three different ways.
- Completing The Scorched Earth Event
- Buying Various Flux From Player Vendors
- Crafting Flux By Harvesting Fauna in Nuke Zones
There are a few different types of Flux. Each type is used to make different high-level items, like Serums and Fusion Cores.
- Cobalt
- Crimson
- Fluorescent
- Violet
- Yellowcake
Due to how difficult Flux is to obtain, it is by far the most valuable component in all of Fallout 76. It is also one of the few components that can't be purchased from NPC vendors, unless another player sells Flux to said vendor, which is very unlikely.
